The presence of lynx is demarcated on the map only very roughly – accuracy 10x10km square area, in order to prevent poaching of carnivores and other misuse of the information on the carnivores presence. Poaching, which is for sure still carried out in the Pošumaví area, is based rather on the monitoring and experience of the poachers themselves, who either very well know where the lynx abide or meet them accidently when walking around the forest and use the opportunity to acquire a (be it illegal) trophy. For these reasons we presume the map will not be misused by poachers.
The Bohemian-Bavarian-Austrian population of the Eurasian lynx is our largest population of this rare carnivore. However, it is threatened with a range of negative influences. The main aim of the Trans-Lynx Project and 3Lynx Project is to secure a better protection of these animals by cooperation of experts from various countries. The aim of the project is to improve the communication among the national nature conservation authorities, hunters, foresters, non-governmental organisations and scientists. They all can contribute to the protection of the Bohemian-Bavarian-Austrian population of this rare carnivore. However, it is necessary to mutually share the research data, exchange experience and together look for solutions of the problems connected with the protection of this species.

Persuade people around you about the necessity of the protection of the Eurasian lynx. Every poacher has a family, friends, and acquaintances. If every one of them was convinced that poaching of this beautiful carnivore is a repulsive act and not a hunter’s success, poaching would disappear. This way every one of us can contribute to the elimination of poaching and to a change of the society for the better.
